Malory took Celtic legends, which had gone into French literature by way of Brittany, gave the tales an English perspective, and produced a work which ever since has had tremendous influence upon literature. Commencing with Arthur's beginnings, it follows Arthur's claim to the throne, his rule of Britain, and the war that followed, with romances intertwined. Galahad's appearance at Camelot begins the quest for the Holy Grail.
